This Week....

Wonderful lamb cake that my neighbor Joan made for us!
Once again, this has been a week of extreme highs and lows.  The low was that my father-in-law passed away.  After his wife of 70 years died in October he didn't have a will to live any more.  He was eating little and became more and more distant and died two days short of his 91st birthday.  We had the funeral Friday and our cousin-good friend Dr. Jack Starkey  officiated.  After the funeral at our luncheon, we told old family stories (Larry's uncle was Jack's father.  Larry's dad and Jack's grandfather were brothers...) and some were quite amusing.
Later Larry brought home a diary that Joe had kept the last couple of years.  He had pasted to the cover many of the great grandchildren's pictures.  It touched both our hearts a great deal.  Being the week of Easter, it brought many poignant thoughts to light.  The Savior's death and Resurrection first, and then family and how you just want to keep them all close.  We were lucky enough to see all our kids this week...if not in the same day.

Emma and Bailey last weekend on an Easter egg hunt...

Dad-Mike helping a little

A beautiful warm day so we could spend some of it outside.

Uncle Tim with Mike helping Bailey...push the trike??

Today, the rest of the clan came and it was the "boy's day"!  Love Cooper's expression here after brunch as we begin their egg hunt!

While it was cool out, the boys still wanted to be outdoors....here throwing sticks and  stones in the creek.

It's so much fun to just watch them be boys

Did I say it was fun to watch them??

Here they were chasing butter-flies to put under the bug-microscope.

Did they catch one, -nope.

But I bet they both went home tired little guys.  It was a happy ending to a busy week.  Certainly it  kept me contemplating God, life and family...and making the most of all our time together.  Happy Easter!!

There is nothing better than family to make you happy.

God is such a wonderful topic to ponder. His plan and how He works in our lives are some of my best lessons learned.

Happy Easter!

So sorry Donna about your father in law. How did you manage that so soon after your surgery. You grandchildren are adorable. Those pictures are just so sweet.
We were with two of our grandchildren. We enjoyed just watching them as well. When we

got there they were sitting on the steps anxiously awaiting our arrival. We melted.
Please rest and take care. Praying for you.

Oh my Donna, I enjoyed your comment on my blog and coming to visit your blog is always such a joyful thing for me to do. There is always family time with the adults and kids together that warms my heart.

I love your family pictures and I'm so sorry about the passing of your father in law. It seems that you and your family are being tested hard this spring.

I love that cute lamb cake. My mother in law had the same mold years ago. I wonder what became of it after she passed away.

Wishing a Blessed Easter long weekend of family fun but don't forget to rest. Hugs. JB

Hey Donna, it sounds like you've had a heck of a year too.
It's interesting how things seem to come in cycles.
It's hard giving up a loved one, I know that from experience. But it sounds like you've had a good day.
Things were good here today too.

Sure hope you are healing well from your surgery and want you to know that you are in my prayers...

PS. Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. It seems like this often happens to couples who have been together so many years. They just don't want to be separated, do they?

So sorry to hear of the death of your father-in-law Donna. what a lovely idea he had of putting all those precious family photos on the cover of his book.

As always, dear friend, I loved your photo "journaling"! (Especially the twins pulling the wagon and the grand kids from the back on the bridge)
Easter is a sad/happy time for me as well, as that was the week I lost my grandparents. I will never forget the mixed feelings of loss and resurrection- Good Friday and then Easter. Guess we have to keep that in mind. Through out all our trials and tribulations, there is always that hope...

PS I am SO jealous of your lamb cake!! :-) Really, what is Easter Sunday without a lamb cake?!

Donna- I'm so sorry about the loss of your father in law. That happens so often in older couples-- grief is a powerful force.

Your family pictures are always so beautiful. It's fun to watch the grand babes while they play. You have a beautiful family.

That cake is amazing-- too pretty to cut!

I hope you have a wonderful week.

I'm sorry to hear about your father in law - you've had a lot on your plate lately! I'm glad you were able to gather your family round and enjoy having them over. Two separate occasions? Even better! Keeps the love coming. I love little boys in navy and khakis. Adorable!

I'm happy that you are surrounded by such a beautiful family. Children keep things in perspective. That photo shot of Cooper just melted my heart. He's a handsome dude!
